Wow Resume

Needs video.

You should be well on your way to having a complete resume that highlights your skills and abilities. Today, here’s a quick reminder to make sure you haven’t forgotten.

  1. Use the format that highlights your situation best. Don’t feel you have to conform exactly to any template. They are only meant to be a guide to get you started.
  2. The only social media link you should include on your resume should be your personal LinkedIn URL.
  3. Make sure you have a professional email address.
  4. If your resume is longer than one page, make sure the most impressive highlights are on page 1.
  5. Don’t forget to customize your resume with keywords to get you past the ATS screening.
  6. Use common resume headings: Experience, Skills, Education, Summary, etc… make it easy for a hiring manager to find the information he/she needs.
  7. Use a summary or profile statement, not an objective statement. Everyone know you are looking for a job, so there’s no need to say “seeking a position using my x skills.” Instead, say “Technician with 6 years of experience in x field. Proven ability to increase productivity. Extensive knowledge in…”
  8. Make sure you use a professional file name for your resume. Save a master copy, then customize individual resumes for each job posting you apply for. You want to make sure your resume is relevant and keyworded so you appear to be the ideal candidate for someone to interview and hire.
  9.  Use active, strong language. Make sure you highlight what you can bring to the company. Do not use passive voice. Be clear and concise. Don’t be overly wordy.
  10. Be consistent with your formatting. If you bold a job title, do it for each of them. Make sure your date formats are consistent throughout as well. Make sure all of your bullets are the same. Use a font that is easy to read both in printed form and on a screen.
  11. Double check your punctuation and spelling.
  12. Proofread your resume. Have someone else proofread your resume. Then read it again.
